40 GB Playstation 3 officialy Launched in India at Grand Expo : Playstation Experience

The long waited Sony 40 GB PS3 was officially announced in India yesterday(finally!). Atindriya Bose, country manager, Sony Computer Entertainment, India(SCEI) yesterday unveiled the 40 GB PS3 in Mumbai for the first time in India Market. The announcement was made at a grand expo “Playstation Experience - Entertainment like never before” .
The PS3 is priced at Rs. 24,900 which is significantly higher than the Rs. 16,000 approx. (USD $399) US price tag.
The price has dropped but hey, the new model is no longer backwards compatible with PS2 titles -
“The new model is no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 titles, reflecting both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles (a total of 65 titles across all genres by Christmas).”
Mr. Atindriya Bose, Country Manager of Sony Computer Entertainment, India said :
“According to the industry reports, gaming is becoming increasingly accepted form of entertainment amongst Indian consumers and society. We perceive this as an ideal time to expose Indian youth to the complete spread of entertainment that is possible with PlayStation, the phenomenon that has taken the world by storm. PlayStation Experience – Entertainment like never before†aims to capture the attention of the Indian youth who is modern and gives value to quality entertainment solutions.â€

Sony Computer Entertainment India also announced games such as Drake’s Fortune and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destructionfor their next-gen console. PSP Spiderman specialty pack at Rs 10,490 with Spiderman games and movies; the Simpsons specialty pack at Rs 9,990 with a new Simpsons game and three new games for PS3. Three more games for PSP are on the anvil. SCEI has also announced the availability of games such as Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow and WipEout Pulse for the PlayStation Portable in India.
