Sony PlayStation 3 production cost cut by half

Sony has been able to cut the price of PlayStation 3 (PS3) by half. The production cost of PS3 was $800 before and now it has been cut down to $400!
The firm has been able to cut down the price by minimizing the size of the chip, removed several components from the PlayStation 3 and tweaked it’s design. Though, it’s still not clear whether the price cut down is for 40GB PS3 or 80GB PS3, but it seems fair to assume that the 40GB is now selling at cost.
More price cut-down(s) might be seen this year, not soon though. Sony are still riding a bit of a wave with regards to PS3 sales and with a number of high profile games coming out in the next few months, that can only improve.
