HP Annouces a new Mini-Notebook PC, HP 2133
HP released a news statement this morning detailing a new mini-notebook to compliment the current line of best-selling notebook PCs. The new mini-notebook is aimed at the education market, and is smaller and lighter than most math and science books (weighing in at just 2.5 lbs). It also features an 8.9 inch 1280 x 768 screen and an accelerometer that can shutdown the hard drive in severe shock situations.Â
The new HP 2133 Mini-Note is getting a warm reception in the educational sector.
“HP listened to our needs and now is delivering a product designed by education for education,†said Chris Sieger, director of information technology for Alexandria City Public Schools in Virginia. “Teachers and technology are the two most important assets in education. HP’s announcement demonstrates that it understands what schools need from industry.â€
The entry model starts at $499 and includes a VIA C7-M processor at 1.0 GHz with a 400 MHz FSB, a 4 GB flash drive and a Linux OS. This is clearly meant to compete against the new ASUS Eee PC.
If you want a 5400 RPM 120 GB drive, the price moves to $549. The higher end model will cost $749 and bumps the processor speed to 1.g GHz, includes Windows Vista, and a 7200 RPM 120 GB drive.
All the models have 802.11b/g/n, USB ports, and the top end model also features Bluetooth. A webcam is also an option.Â
